Common Sewage Pumping Station Problems

Sewage systems utilize pipe networks that send waste from a property to the main sewer. The transport of the waste to the sewer often occurs through the force of gravity as the waste flows downhill. In the case when the property is located at a lower elevation than the main sewer, the gravity method will not work. This is when a pumping station is required. At Rapid Pump and Meter Service Co., Inc., we are your source for reliable sewage pump repair and sewage pump maintenance. New Jersey residents look to us for sewage pumping solutions.

Regardless of how well-performing your pumping system has been, there is always the possibility of a problem occurring at some point. This why routine pumping station maintenance beneficial. It is also helpful to be aware of some of the common issues that can arise with these systems. These include:

Although pumps are manufactured and installed in such a way as to minimize the possibility of blockages, they can still occur. Certain substances such as oils, fats, and other similar waxy materials, when flushed down a toilet, can potentially solidify and clog up the system. Other objects such as paper towels and heavier items may also clog pipes, causing the toilet to back up.

Pump Failing to Start

Sewage pump maintenance is important to prevent pump issue. If a pump will not start, the reason may include lack of electricity going to the pump, debris blocking the impeller, a broken pump, or blockage in the pump that damages the electrical system. Sewage pump maintenance may

Pump Failing to Shut Off

When a pump will not stop, often there is a malfunction with the control float switch, with it getting stuck in a position that keeps the pump on. One sign that the pump is not turning off at normal times is an unusual jump in your electricity bill.

Broken Pipes

Some of the signs that you may have broken pipes include slow drains, toilet backing up, foundation cracks, and mold problems. Regular inspections and maintenance may discover and fix these problems, prevent them from becoming more expensive.

What You Need to Know About Industrial Piping

Food processing plants, chemical plants, and other industrial facilities require industrial piping, and specifically, process piping. Many systems use this piping to transport materials such as gas and liquid. Other systems are designed to convey powders and slurry. These materials are transported safely through the means of industrial piping. New Jersey manufacturing facilities rely on this piping for some of their key processes. At Rapid Pump & Meter Service Co., Inc. and Machinery Services Corp., we provide turnkey construction services for various industries, including transportation, municipal, commercial, and sectors that have a large selection of pumps and other equipment made by leading domestic manufacturers.

Process Piping vs. Pipelines

There is a difference between process piping and pipelines that are designed to move fluids and gases over long distances between facilities. Process piping conveys these substances within the same facility.

Process Piping Systems and Safety

Industrial piping in the category of process piping can transport toxic and non-toxic materials. Based on the type of gas or fluid your piping system must handle, professional engineers design systems to conform to the regulations and codes established by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

With the installation of pressure relief devices, process piping systems have the ability to operate efficiently and safely under interior impact events such as pressure surges and water hammers.

Fire is a danger in many piping systems that convey combustible gases and liquids. Process piping systems are designed to contain or relieve the maximum pressure imposed by heat from fires. They are designed to endure extreme temperatures.

Industrial piping should be designed in coordination with geotechnical engineers to ensure any settling of the soil and/or rock under a facility over time does not affect the integrity and operation of the piping, both below and above ground.

The testing of process piping systems after installation is necessary to ensure they operate optimally and that no excessive vibration causes issues. If modifications, repairs, or replacements to the piping are made, further testing is needed.

Why it is Important to Exercise Your Valves

We all like to get our exercise and so do you’re VALVES!

Inevitably we all receive the call, slightly panicky, more than annoyed, it’s from one of your team-members, they needed to isolate the system and that brave valve that has been tucked away in a corner, in a manhole or some other dark, dingy, wet environment suffering silently, will not turn no matter how big a wrench you use or the handle just flat out broke off the valve stem. Now you need to look into valve repair.

When was the last time you exercised those valves? Do you have a valve exercising program? Do you even know where all those valves are?

Some things to consider:

Locate the valves: Physically locate the valves and match them up with the current paper maps. If you have to mark up those maps and get them updated do it. We need to know where those valves are!

Exercise those valves! Nothing is worse than a valve that will not turn. Fully open and close those valves, count how many turns to fully open and close the valve, make sure every part is operable, bonnet nut, discs etc.. And how much torque it requires.

Record keeping: maintain meticulous records of the valves, what model

and size is the valve, when was the last time you replaced the valve etc. ,date you exercised it  and most importantly one can never have enough photos of the valve, photos can help you visually the impact over time, familiarize new team member  with the location and work conditions

Scheduling repairs and budgeting: A good valve exercise program can help you forecast planned outages where you can repair or replace valves on YOUR SCHEDULE as well as help to reduce those unnecessary and costly premature failures

Most importantly, get started on a valve exercising program right away!  If you do not have the manpower or equipment to exercise the valves yourselves, hire a subcontractor to do the work for you. Oftentimes it turns out to be less expensive than doing the work yourselves.

The Importance of Industrial Grinders

Material grinding – also referred to as attrition milling – involves the mechanical breakdown of materials into finer particles. Many industrial processes utilize this as an essential step. Grinding is a sub-category of cutting and is applied in the process of cutting metal. At Rapid Pump & Meter Service Co., Inc. and Machinery Services Corp. in New Jersey, we are your experienced source for industrial grinders. New Jersey customers and beyond can choose among our grinder options that include the SHRED Series Industrial Grinders and HYDRO Series In-Line/Open Channel Grinders.

Industrial grinding is used in the mining industry to extract metals such as gold from surrounding rock. But this process is also used for other purposes mentioned below:

To Change the Reaction of Processes

Various industrial processes make use of material grinding machines. Industrial grinders are used outside of the mining industry for multiple purposes, including to change process reactions. An example includes how smaller particle sizes increase surface area which in turn can reduce the temperature at which a reaction takes place or to improve the speed of the reaction.

Create Nanostructured Materials

Industrial grinders can also produce nanostructured materials simply and cost-effectively. The balance between the dislocation motion and the plastic deformation of the material must be considered regarding the creation of nanostructured materials during mechanical milling. This will help determine if grinding is the proper way to obtain nanoscale materials.

Through a strictly mechanical process, as in the case of the creation of nanomaterials, some materials are challenging to grind down to very fine particulate sizes. Therefore, in certain cases, including when breaking down pigments and other organic substances, wet milling may be used to further reduce particle sizes even more than is possible through dry milling.

Wet milling creates a dry slurry. The process sends the material into a liquid medium as it is mechanically crushed. Depending on the requirements of the material, the liquid may be evaporated after the grinding process is finished.
