What is a Submersible Pump?

Comments Off on What is a Submersible Pump?

Submersible pumps are a type of wastewater and sewage removal devise. Unlike other types of sewage pumps, it has been designed to be submerged under the very water it is to displace. While some pumps may be partially in the water, a Submersible Pump is completely covered. Our customers in New York, New Jersey and surrounding areas generally use Submersible Pumps to drain slurry or sewage. However, submersible pumps are also employed to drain flooding water and ponds.

How Does A Submersible Pump Work?

The submersible pumps we sell and service in New York, New Jersey and operate using a motor and a rotating propeller. The motor is completely sealed from any exterior elements, notably wastewater and is coupled as close as possible to the actual body of the submersible pump. Level sensors act to help control its functions.

The energy produced by the rotating impeller is converted into kinetic energy then into pressure energy. This motion pushes the water outward and to the surface. The amount of water a submersible pump can displace depends upon the horsepower of the pump. Different models are designed to handle a specific water draining task.

Advantages

What makes submersible pumps advantageous to many operations are the following three characteristics:

  1. They do not require priming, ever
  2. They are very efficient
  3. Unlike many sewage pumps, they are very quiet
